Our Leisure Learning classes are designed with the community in mind! We offer classes in areas of personal interest as well as health and fitness. Leisure education provides an individual the opportunity to enhance their quality of life while gaining knowledge in activities that they might not have otherwise considered.

If you are looking for a hobby or activity, one of our Community Education/Leisure classes may be for you!

Programs are scheduled in the evenings to meet the needs of an adult's busy lifestyle and are offered at convenient locations throughout our region.

Health & Fitness

Aerobic Fun in the Water

If you enjoy the water, laughing and exercising to music, this class is for you! Water aerobics is recommended for anyone with joint issues. Doctors often recommend water exercise to take the pressure off the joints while still raising your heart rate. Men and women of all ages are welcome!

Aqua Aerobics

This one-hour class is a fun-filled exercise program in the water. We start out with stretching and warm-up and then really get moving to get a good cardio workout. Special attention is paid to cool-down, stretching and relaxation at the end of the class. Each week is unique, and you are guaranteed to have fun while exercising!

Gentle Yoga

You are invited to join her in our 6-week Gentle Yoga session. Discover how yoga is an individual, noncompetitive practice to improve your strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, and coordination through an awareness of breath, an open hear, and a clear mind. This class is for all abilities. Options and variations of poses will be modeled and cued throughout every class so that each participant can practice in a way that is authentic for themselves. Pease bring a Yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. Please call to sign up.

CDAMP - Comprehensive Dental Assisting Modular Program

Prerequisite: Must be currently working as a dental assistant for a minimum of two years.
Attention all working dental assistants! Now there is a dental assisting program designed for the individual to complete at your own pace, on your own time, to qualify for New York State Certification.

CPR - American Heart Association BLS

The goal of the Basic Life Support (BLS) Course is to train participants to save lives of victims in cardiac arrest through high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The American Heart Association designed the BLS Course to teach healthcare professionals how to perform high-quality CPR individually or as part of a team. BLS skills are applicable to any healthcare setting. BLS students will learn rescue techniques for adults, children and infants. - AHA 2016

Participants will receive a certificate of completion and e-card sent to their email, following successful completion of the course.

HeartCode BLS

HeartCode BLS is the American Heart Association's Basic Life Saving blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of e-learning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session. - AHA

The e-learning portion of this course is to be completed at the student's leisure.

Go to https://CPR.heart.org/en/courses and register for HeartCode (Note: There is a separate cost for the online portion, payable upon online registration.) Once you have completed this portion of the course, call to schedule your hands-on skill section. The skill section can be completed in 1-2 hours.

Students must bring their completion certificate from the e-learning portion to complete the hands-on skill session.

Security Guard - 8 Hour Pre-Assignment

GST BOCES is an approved site to offer the following Security Guard Training Courses as required by NYG General Business Law Article 7-A, section 89-n. 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course.
This is an 8 hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course.
